Well, somehow it is August already. This year really feels like it has flown by.... So lets get into the fishing before snow flies again! While yes we are well underway into summer, having only limited "hot" weather has allowed for fishing to remain pretty solid. Dont get me wrong some of the rivers in the State are definitely feeling the effects of summer sun. However your bottom fed dams on some rivers are maintaining manageable fishing temperatures.
The Magalloway still fishing reasonably well to dry flies and caddis are plentiful. However, like always when the sun is out you have got to go sub surface and get down to them. The cold nights that have hit recently should help drop the temperatures to that river fairly well. This time of year it is good idea to bring hoppers and big attractor flies and try to get those fish to look up for some big eats. May have to settle for smaller fish but they'll put on a show!
The Kennebec has maintained decent temperatures in the Bingham section however the water has been very high just up until this week. Caddis flies are still throughout the river and hopper fishing is a go. If you are fishing below Wyman as high release be sure to throw big smelt patterns. Warm sunny days may turn the trout off and when you get tired of catching 8in salmon it may interest you to turn to the smallmouth bass population. Bass fishing has been very steady on the river. hard to beat a wooly bugger and poppers when fishing for these hard fighting fish.
I know it is a short report but I have been extremely busy off the water. I will be hitting the water soon and hopefully will have a deeper update! Fish often!
