I'm going to try to shine some sunlight on the rainy state that we have been living in for the last month! Going into the week of June 25th and it feels like we could just be entering the month of June not exiting it.
Did I mention the beginning of June is my favorite time? So the fact that this time period has been extended is the only ray of sunshine we've seen. So let's get into the report.
The river in Bingham has been at flood stage for the past week flowing up to 29000cfs and not been very fishable. When flows came down the river picked up where if left off. Caddis are plentiful and fish are hungry! Dry fly fishing will be in full swing for the next few weeks! Depending on weather may last for over a month!
The Dead along with seeing the flood has fished well with big ugly stone fly nymphs. Fish have been eager to eat. Again there are Caddis showing up and lingering mayflies. Definitely bring all your fly boxes as you could throw everything you have and be successful.
The Mag- the Magalloway has been solid fishing and seems as though the mayflies are phasing out and the Caddis flies have taken a strong hold on the river. Rafting flows are coming so be sure to check out safe waters website to ensure you don't waste a drive.
Along with the rivers, still water ponds have produced some beautiful fish. Hatches have been decent but even when the bugs seem scarce the fish are still willing to eat chasing emergers just below the surface. Stillwater has never been my area of expertise but I will say as I continue to fish ponds the fish I have encountered and the quietness of the water is something every angler should strive to enjoy.
Fishing is too good to be reading my illiterate posts! Get out there and throw a line!
See you out there,
Shawn Soucie
